Student's Evidence (PO 6)

PO6 - Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, economical and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice

Attainment: 75

Self Assessment: 3.8/5

This PO relates to how an individual apply reasonable knowledge and responsibilities on societal, health, safety, legal, economical and cultural context which are relevant to professional engineering practice. The module that maps with this PO is Mechanical Engineering Group Project (MEGP) which was elaborated in PO3. In the project, societal, health, safety, legal, economical and cultural issues were taken into consideration. As our prototype involved of chemical, which is related to human’s health and safety, therefore, the team was first assess the prototype with these parameters. The involved chemical is called Phase Changed Material (PCM), and it is a non-toxic chemical and non-acidic chemical. PCM is not edible as well. for our prototype, the PCM is fully sealed in the tank and it not easy to expose to the end user. Therefore, the prototype is fine with these two parameters. Furthermore, this prototype has not been patent by anyone, and it has no issue with the legacy. Economically wise, the PCM has a life span of at least 10 years and the product doesn’t involve any short-term maintenance, therefore the prototype is considered as an economic product. Lastly, this product has no issue with the societal and cultural aspect.

Student's Evidence (PO 7)

PO7- Explain the global impact of professional engineering solutions in societal, economical and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development

Attainment: 75

Self Assessment: 4/5

This PO explains the importance of global impact of professional engineering solutions and the knowledge of sustainable development in various factors such as societal, economical and environmental. The module that maps with this PO is Mechanical Engineering Group Project (MEGP) which was elaborated in PO3. Three Pillars of Sustainability (Social, Environment & economic) were taken into consideration in the project. My team assessed the project regarding the three pillars of sustainability and concluded that the project meets with all the three aspects. For the economical wise, the prototype from the project is meant to reduce the energy consumption of a heat pump during the defrost stage. For environmental wise, the prototype uses the chemical substance called Phase Change Material (PCM), it was used to conserve the energy and release it when it’s needed. Lastly, for societal wise, this product is applicable to all the places with cold climates and it is safe for use.

Student's Evidence (PO 8)

PO8 - Apply professional and ethical responsibilities of engineering practice

Attainment: 80

Self Assessment: 4.5/5

This PO relates to how an individual hold his/her professionalism and ethics of engineering practice. Throughout the degree studies, I have been working on projects provided or collaborated with Daikin Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. I was required to sign a Non-Disclosure Form (NDF) with was prepare by the industrial side. And I was agreed with the document of not disclosing any technical information regarding the provided project or the given confidential data. Throughout the semesters, I did not disclose any information regarding the given projects to others and the presentations for the projects were conducted in an enclosed space with only authorized persons. In addition, this is also map with BEM COC 001 provision 2.2.3, “A registered Professional Engineer shall not reveal facts, data or information without the prior consent of the Client or Employer, past and present, except as authorized or required by law or when the withholding of such information is contrary to the safety, health and interest of the public.”

Attainment: 78

Self Assessment: 4/5

This PO relates to how an individual manage the stakeholders expectations, and to hold strong project management skills by utilizing tools and techniques in multidisciplinary environments. Throughout the degree studies, project management tools such as Gantt Chart, PERT Chart, Work Breakdown Sturcture (WBS) and Responsibility Chart etc were applied on majority of the projects. Furthermore, the projects were also evaluated with the four factors, such as schedule, cost, quality and stakeholder satisfaction to determine if the projects are success.
